Hi,
I managed to apply to a few of the local races using the allocated money that I had in my old company (the wellness allowance) and needed to be used somehow during this year thus avoiding the “waste”. 🙂
Anyway, I started this year with a whole new approach since me starting the running passion in 2013. Having still this issue with my right foot I needed to deal with the injury somehow, rest the foot as possible as I could and do the things that a normal Plantar fasciitis requires:
– Stretching: Stretching your calves and the bottom of your foot can help relieve tension.
– Rest & Ice: Reducing high-impact activity and applying ice to the heel for 15-20 minutes a few times a day.
– Support
The last thing – support – of the foot is the only thing that I didn’t do since the injury. So I bought an Adjustable Ankle Brace. I figured, what could I loose. Well, I did a few runs with that thing on my foot and I actually felt OK. It might not be good for longer runs, but I need to get back into proper shape so I have time to deal properly with the injury and hopefully get rid of the suffering.
The good thing is that I felt less and less pain in the morning during these last months. Even after a run, the day after is not as painful as it was, and the initial discomfort disappears after a few minutes.
In May I started my new job position and with that I started to use my bike to work and run a few days a week as well. It works quite nicely. Nothing too fancy, it’s just a first step in the correct direction that will hopefully put me on track in order to be able to enjoy running again and do some lovely races in the future.
So, the races, I applied on these:
- BBUT – Bunketorp Backyard Ultra Trail
I raced this race a few times and it’s a really lovely local backyard event. Great event, amazing people and quite tough course that I like a lot.
Well, I managed to win the race once as well. 🙂
- Orust Tvärs
I raced this race a few times before. Those 27km of the race are demanding but the beauty of the nature surrounding the trails is just stunning.
A race to remember and enjoy! I could do something else this year. I raced it a few times and I filmed the race once as well. This time I might hike it and share the trails with my wife instead.
We’ll see. 🙂
- Sätila Trail
A 85km long race in November just to finish the year with a proper ultra-event! I loved the race since it’s start years ago. It´s easy for me to get there in approx. 30 minutes from home so the logistics is easy. The tougher part is the drive back home. I will put a lot less stress on my goals this year.
I will have no time goals, the only goal will be to get to the finish line with a smile. If that will not be possible for some reason I might consider not finishing it. The main thing for this year is the change of priorities.
Some things in life are just more important. Simple as that. 😉
These are the races that I planned. I will not compete properly in these races. I will try to enjoy these races, have fun, enjoy the community and just be….. in the present, surrounded by nice people and great nature. As it should be….
I hope to see some of my fellow runners out there. 🙂
Kind Regards,
Aramis
